The finalists convened in Fayetteville, Georgia, from October 9-10 for the decisive judging phase, held at Trilith Studios, with the magnificent vehicles showcased during Luftgekühlt at Town at Trilith. The anticipation now builds for the awards banquet, where winners in Preservation, Restoration, and Individualization, along with the coveted Grand National Champion, will be revealed.
Masterful Craftsmanship Brings Icons Back to Life

The Challenge spotlights an extraordinary commitment to automotive heritage, with each project representing a deep dive into Porsche's storied past. The categories – Preservation, Restoration, and Individualization – reflect the diverse approaches to keeping these classics alive. Preservation focuses on maintaining originality while improving functionality, Restoration aims to return vehicles to a like-new condition adhering to original specifications, and Individualization allows for highly personalized, one-of-a-kind vehicles inspired by Porsche's 'Sonderwunsch' (Special Wishes) philosophy.
Among the standout projects earning finalist spots, a 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo from Harper Porsche in the Area East region exemplifies the exhaustive 'Restoration' category. This particular vehicle, having endured years of neglect under the unforgiving Florida sun, demanded a complete overhaul. The team meticulously addressed extensive rust repair, performed a bare-metal repaint, and undertook a comprehensive rebuild of its engine, transmission, and turbocharger. Guided by original factory specifications and a steadfast commitment to authenticity, the Harper Porsche team successfully returned this uniquely specified Porsche to its original glory, rescuing it from potential loss to time.
Another impressive contender in the 'Restoration' category is Porsche Beachwood's 1969 912 Targa Soft Window. This project showcased an extensive engine rebuild, comprehensive cosmetic restoration, and meticulous paint correction and detailing. Every facet of this restoration was executed with a focus on authenticity and unparalleled craftsmanship. Beyond its technical excellence, this 912's restoration also served a noble cause, helping to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Alzheimer's disease research in honor of the vehicle's previous owner, thereby celebrating both Porsche heritage and community impact.
Innovation and Passion Driving Automotive Heritage Forward
The 'Individualization' category pushes the boundaries of classic car interpretation. Porsche Tucson, a finalist in Area West, presented a captivating 1973 Porsche 914. This project was a tribute to a dedicated technician, Jim, with nearly five decades of Porsche expertise. Starting from a gutted rolling chassis, the team embarked on extensive fabrication, restoration, and performance upgrades, creating a unique vehicle directly inspired by Jim's personal vision for the car.
Jonathan Sieber, Senior Manager of Porsche Classic, underscored the exceptional quality of work seen this year, stating, "Making it to the finals is a real testament to the passion, skill, and teamwork behind each of these projects." He further emphasized the excitement of welcoming these teams to the National Championship, celebrating the craftsmanship and dedication that are vital for preserving Porsche heritage for future generations.
The Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge continues to be a unifying force, bringing together enthusiasts, skilled technicians, and Porsche Classic specialists around a shared mission: to ensure that the legacy of these iconic vehicles endures. As the automotive world eagerly awaits the final results, the challenge serves as a powerful reminder of the artistry, technical prowess, and profound passion that define classic car restoration.
